This is another one scene ballet by Kenneth MacMillan. The music is by Malcolm Arnold – Eight English Dances.
The design was originally done by Barry Kay.
Solitaire Ballet was first performed by the Sadler’s Wells Theatre Ballet on the 7th of June 1956.

Kenneth MacMillan’s Solitaire Ballet
The choreographer called this very early work ‘a kind of game for one.’
Its theme is that of a lonely girl who dreams of companions who seem called up from her imagination.
The texture of the ballet is light, by turns wistful or merry, and it was early evidence of MacMillan’s gift for making dances that fixed a mood with charming sincerity.
The role of the girl has never been better danced than by its creator Margaret Hill. For a recent revival by the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, the ballet was redesigned by Barry Kay.
